Advancing Student Achievement at Arroyo
Curriculum
- LITERACY: A balanced approach to the Common Core English Language Arts State Standards. This includes Readers Workshop, Writers Workshop, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Structured Literacy, and access to diversified and robust classroom reading libraries.
- MATHEMATICS: Math Expressions is our current adoption for accessing the Common Core Math Standards. Students learn and practice the Standards of Mathematical Practices through Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) and Math Workshop classroom systems and structures.
- SCIENCE: Interactive and hands-on learning play an essential part in understanding science and the environment. At Arroyo, students engage in monthly interactive, outdoor, NGS standards-based, experiential science with a specialized and highly qualified teacher. Our science curriculum is Twig Science. Engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and Maker Space education offerings are provided, as well as an award winning Robotics Team! The Mustang Maker Space has Beebot and Ozobot coding robots, Osmo interactive learning tools, a green screen studio and more!
- SOCIAL STUDIES: Our inquiry-based Savvas social studies curriculum promotes democratic values, community, and cultural diversity, while supporting the California History-Social Science Standards and Framework.
The curriculum features digital content and multimedia resources to make learning interactive, current, and life-changing.
-
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: A comprehensive school physical activity program that develops the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be physically active each week.
-
VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS: Arts education in all grade levels with the Meet the Masters Art Program, as well as visual and performing arts assemblies. All 3rd-5th grade students also participate in a weekly music program, including voice, strings, and recorders.
