Advancing Student Achievement at Arroyo
Curriculum
- LITERACY: A balanced approach is used to teach to the Common Core English Language Arts State Standards. This includes writing, reading comprehension, fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics, structured literacy, and access to diversified and robust classroom reading libraries.
- MATHEMATICS: Students learn Common Core Math Standards and practice the Standards of Mathematical Practices through Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) and Math Workshop classroom systems and structures.
- SCIENCE: Interactive and hands-on learning play an essential part in understanding science and the environment. At Arroyo, students engage in interactive, outdoor, NGS standards-based, experiential science. Our adopted science curriculum is Twig Science.
- SOCIAL STUDIES: Our inquiry-based Savvas social studies curriculum promotes democratic values, community, and cultural diversity, while supporting the California History-Social Science Standards and Framework. The curriculum features digital content and multimedia resources to make learning interactive, current, and life-changing.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: A comprehensive school physical activity program that develops the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be physically active each week.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS: Arts education is provided in all grade levels with the Meet the Masters Art Program, as well as visual and performing arts assemblies. All 2nd-5th grade students also participate in a weekly music program, including voice, strings, and recorders.

Birthday Book Club
The Arroyo Elementary School Library’s Birthday Book Club (BBC) is a great way to honor your child’s special day and help our library grow! Prior turnout added so many new books to our book collection. Participation in the program involves a $25.00 donation per book (per child). Enrollment includes the following:

Acknowledgement of the child’s participation in BBC in the library.

The opportunity to be the first student to check out the donated library book.

Child selects a book from a wonderful collection of new, hardcover books that our school library needs.

A special book plate is placed inside the front cover of the donated book with the child’s name and birthday.

A personalized Birthday Book Club bookmark is made with a photo of the child.
